Stevia (<em>Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni<\/em>) adalah sejenis herba daripada keluarga <em>Asteraceae<\/em>. Ia berasal daripada Paraguay, di mana ia tumbuh secara liar di tanah berpasir.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>2. Daun Stevia rebaudiana mengandungi pemanis tanpa gula dan tanpa kalori, di mana penggunaannya boleh memberi kesan yang baik terhadap kesihatan manusia.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>3. Ekstrak daun Stevia rebaudiana telah digunakan di Amerika Syarikat sebagai rawatan alternatif dan tradisional dalam rawatan diabetes.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>4. Komponen pemanis yang utama dalam daun Stevia rebaudianais stevioside dikatakan mempunyai kesan antioksidan, anti-mikrob dan anti-kulat.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>5. Stevioside dan rebaudioside A merupakan komponen pemanis yang utama, di mana kesan pemanis masing-masing adalah 200 dan 400 kali ganda berbanding gula tebu.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>6. Kedua-dua komponen stabil walaupun pada suhu setinggi 200 \u00b0 C, menjadikan mereka sesuai digunakan dalam makanan yang dimasak.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>7. Kajian analisis turut menunjukkan bahawa Stevia juga mengandungi asid folik, vitamin C dan asid amino yang sangat diperlukan.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>8. Justeru, penanaman Stevia dan pengeluarannya merupakan alternatif kepada gula terutamanya untuk pesakit kencing manis dan mereka yang berdiet kerana stevia tidak mengandungi karbohidrat (gula), lemak atau protein.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>9. Ekstrak pemanis Stevia dikatakan memberi kesan yang baik terhadap kesihatan; termasuk mengurangkan tekanan darah tinggi, mengurangkan paras gula dalam darah, tidak merosakkan gigi, dapat melawan jangkitan rotavirus, membantu metabolisma gula dan membantu peningkatan fungsi buah pinggang.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>10. Ekstrak akueus daun kering Stevia rebaudiana juga mendorong vasodilatasi sistemik dan buah pinggang, menyebabkan penurunan tekanan darah, dieresis dan natriuresis dalam tikus.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>11.
