Ini kerana ramai yang menyangka bahawa minyak ikan dan omega 3 adalah dua perkara yang sama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minyak ikan adalah minyak yang ada pada ikan. Ia mengandungi pelbagai jenis asid lemak. Manakala omega 3 adalah sejenis asid lemak dari kelas polyunsaturated fatty acid. Maknanya minyak ikan mengandungi Omega 3 dan asid lemak yang lain. Jadi ia istilah umum. Yang kita mahu adalah Omega 3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sekali lagi, Omega 3 adalah sejenis asid lemak dalam kumpulan lemak tidak tepu poli (polyunsaturated fatty acid). Omega 3 mengandungi 3 jenis asid lemak iaitu ALA, EPA, dan DHA. DHA dan EPA boleh didapati dalam ikan seperti cod, sardin, dan lain-lain. ALA, sebaliknya, boleh didapati daripada minyak sayuran seperti minyak soya kacang badam (almond), walnut dan flaxseeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DHA dan EPA adalah komponen Omega 3 penting kerana hanya terdapat pada minyak ikan.  Jadi jika kita membeli suplemen minyak ikan, ikan akan dapat dua komponen Omega 3 ini. Dalam suplemen minyak ikan, untuk mendapatkan Omega 3 kita harus melihat kedua-dua nilai DHA dan EPA. Bukan melihat nilai minyak ikan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contoh satu biji softgel mungkin mengandungi 500mg minyak ikan tetapi nilai DHA 250mg dan EPA 125mg. Nilai omega 3 adalah 375mg. Yang selebihnya, pihak farmaseutikal yang mengeluarkan produk itu, mencampurkan dengan minyak zaitun atau minyak sayur. Jadi jangan tertipu dengan nilai dos minyak ikan tetapi lihat nilai DHA dan EPA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Omega 3 sangat bermanfaat kepada manusia untuk menurunkan tahap kolesterol dalam darah, dan seterusnya dengan itu mencegah pembentukan sumbatan pada saluran darah (arterosklerosis). Ia juga mencegah hipertensi dan pengumpulan trigliceride dalam darah.
